Wasp

The one year long escape game, promoting teamwork and challenging ethical dilemmas.
Will you accept the invitation?

The Story

The government has discovered that an asteroid made of Cobalt is headed for Earth. The asteroid is estimated to land on Earth in 1 year. If it hits, 10% of the Earth's population will die. Gothenburg is calculated to be the perfect place to launch a missile from, to shoot down the asteroid. The state is willing to let this asteroid hit, to be able to use the material in the asteroid for battery production and the transition to green energy. An anonymous person working at NASA, Anonymous, has now realized that this is about to happen. He thinks it is inhumane to sacrifice 10% of the world's population for this and wants to stop the disaster from happening. He can't do it on his own at the risk of exposing himself, as he would loose his job. He therefore recruits a number of people for the mission of launching the missile, destroying the asteroid and saving the population.

The Tasks: Step by Step

Throughout the year, the participants should solve different tasks, working together towards the final goal. Below, the various tasks for the mission are presented, but of course you cannot take part of these unless you have been chosen.

The Prototype

For the exhibition held at the Visual Arena, a prototype was made to illustrate part of the concept. The prototype reflected the end of the experience, where the goal was to establish the intended feeling of being part of Operation Wasp.

Recieve Letter & Accept Challenge

Randomly selected persons recieve letters with a short description. They can chose whether to accept the challenge and be a part of the team working together to save the planet, or they can decline and live with their decision.

Solve Tasks

The participants should solve tasks in order to recieve the combination to unlock the glass box and press the button to launch the missile. Collaboration is essential to solve the tasks and save the Earth.

Ethical Discussion

The experience ends with an ethical discussion, where the group has to reflect upon their action and mutually decide how to finish the experience.

The Project

"Operation Wasp is a one year long escape game, promoting teamwork and challenging ethical dilemmas"

WHO?

This adventure is designed for residents of Gothenburg, aged 25 and above. Participants are chosen randomly, but it's a perfect fit for thrillseekers who enjoy roleplaying to spice up their daily routine. If you're looking to beat boredom, this mission is also tailored for you.

WHAT?

Operation Wasp is a one year long, slow technology escape game. A limited number of participants are randomly selected to either accept the invitation and become part of this unique experience, or decline and remain silent. Those who accept will receive periodic letters with instructions for various tasks throughout the year. The game's core theme is teamwork, emphasizing ethical dilemmas.

WHY?

The purpose of Operation Wasp is to create excitement and thrill, as well as to challenge and question different ethical considerations, as well as challenging traditional escape rooms.

Meet our Team

We are five master students from the Interaction Design and Technologies program at Chalmers University of Technology. This project was done for one of our courses, Interaction Design Project, where we had the opportunity to create an escape room that challenged the boundaries of an ordinary escape room.
